I haven't used epic in a few years so i'm not terribly up to date on it specifically, but nearly all emrs offer an acronym/macro type setup where you can save preformated templates and phrases, and then past them into your note by typing a keyword. So epic is used in 34% of healthcare settings in the us. I search their note template and steal the dot phrase they use as needed. Tips/tricks/ brain templates/ report hacks that has improved your work flow. For example i have one for uri exam and abdominal pain that documents a normal exam and then i can edit any positives, negatives or delete things i didn't actually do. Reference smartphrases can be viewed by others (just teach them how to open a different user's smartphrases).

Having your reference materials easily available directly in epic makes it very convenient and you never have to worry about where that information is stored. Some of my favorite dot phrases are: Various specialist services in our hospital have their unique formats with colors, different tables to display information, etc. I have smartphrase templates for soap notes, admit h&ps, some specialty things like ob or neonatal h&ps, as well as some smartphrases that fill in stuff for the plan like diabetes care or chf care etc.
